Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort
Ainsworth Hot Springs, located in West Kootenay, Canada, provides a relaxing hot springs environment amidst breathtaking scenery. Guests are invited to soak in the spacious outdoor pool while taking in the picturesque vista of the Purcell Mountains and Kootenay Lake.
Perhaps the most unique characteristic of Ainsworth Hot Springs is the horseshoe-shaped hot spring cave. The water is clear and completely odorless, making it the perfect rejuvenation environment for individuals who are sensitive to harsh chemicals, odors and elements.
The all-natural hot water that feeds into the horseshoe cave comes in at a steamy 117 degrees and is cooled to about 114 degrees before circulating through the caves. As it circulates and finally accumulates in the main wading pool, the water cools to a temperature of about 96 degrees. It is estimated that the water that flows through the horseshoe cave completely changes about six times each day.
As guests relax in the dimly lit cave, they are invited to marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites, which form naturally amongst the steam baths. Before leaving the cave, many guests also enjoy engaging in a cold plunge into a pool filled with naturally cool water.
Many guests wonder about the origin of the copious amounts of water that feed into the Ainsworth horseshoe cave. Long before it reaches the premises, the hot water pours out of the Cody Caves area, which is located close to the Ainsworth Hot Springs. It is estimated that the water stems from as far deep into the earth’s crust as a mile before working its way to the surface.
There are over 40 rooms available for overnight stays at Ainsworth. Guests can enjoy a hearty pre-dip meal in the resort dining room. The dining room features a breathtaking view of the Kootenay Lake and the Purcell Mountain range through floor to ceiling windows.
In addition to fine dining and optimal views, the dining room also offers a menu of fine Canadian wines for guests to enjoy. The dining room offers casual fine dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner, making it a perfect addition to any day at the spa.
When guests are not basking in the warmth and relaxation of the hot springs, they have many options. Those interested in taking a tour of a Brewing company can spend an afternoon sipping on Canadian-brewed brewskey at the Nelson Brewing Company.
There are plenty of water sports around the area of the Ainsworth Hot Spring Resort that do not involve taking a dip in the steamy waters. Among these sports are romantic nighttime sailboat charters, fishing trips, Kayaking and Canoeing and even glacier climbing (in cold-weather months.)
Skiers also flock in droves to the Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort, seeking refuge from the world-renowned slopes of Baldface, Valhalla Powdercats, Retallack and Selkirk Wilderness. Slope enthusiasts can take their trip to the top via helicopter if they are truly inspired to engage in some risk-taking adventure. Others can find flat ground for cross-country and adventure trekking as well.
No matter what the draw, Ainsworth Hot Springs is the ideal location to call home while on vacation in Canada – whether you seek the warmth of the springs or the chill of the slippery slopes!
