Hot Springs Spas

Idaho’s Hot Springs

Idaho’s hot springs, also known as nature’s own “hot spas”, continue to attract visitor interest year after year. Located on private or publicly accessible property, these hot springs shoot warm water high in mineral content - making them ideal for rehabilitation and therapeutic use. As a result, thousands of tourists visit these springs on a “soaking excursion.” Keep in mind the two types of hot springs in Idaho: natural and/or commercial. Natural hot springs are on public land while commercial hot springs are on private land, and may require a fee to use.

In either environment (public or private), you want to prepare for the most exciting excursion you will find in Idaho. For example, since many of Idaho’s hot springs are near rivers, you’ll want to plan your visit during a time of the year when the springs won’t be under water. You’ll also want to wear brightly colored clothing if you visit the springs during hunting season.

Since thousands of these hot springs were created anywhere from twenty to forty-five million years ago from volcanic activity, you’ll find wild animals, rocks, and plants as old as time itself. You’ll also see Native American cultural and historic artifacts, such as arrowheads and pottery shards. Native Americans have regarded these hot springs as sacred healing places for over ten thousand years - and they still do!

We’ll be profiling some hot springs spots around Idaho but in the meantime, visit these sites for Idaho-specific information:
